New Westminster, nicknamed the "Royal City," is primarily known as the oldest city in Western Canada, founded in 1859 as the first capital of British Columbia. Located on the Fraser River, it is known for its rich pioneer history, preserved heritage buildings, waterfront parks, and a central, accessible role within Metro Vancouver.
New West is arguably the most transit-oriented city in Metro Vancouver. Because it is physically small (only about 15 square kilometers), almost everything is reachable within a 15-minute walk or a short bus ride. With five SkyTrain stations, you can reach Downtown Vancouver or Surrey in about 25–30 minutes.
